Colon Hydrotherapy: LIBBE (Open) Colonic System
What is the LIBBE Device?
The LIBBE is registered with the FDA as a Class II medical device. LIBBEs are manufactured in compliance with strict FDA guidelines that dictate rigorous accountability. Features include: temperature-controlled water mixing and back flow prevention valves, pressure and temperature sensors, water purification, and disinfecting standards. Each client has a new single-use nozzle.
What is an "Open System"?
We offer the only open system colon hydrotherapy service in Burlington, Vermont. In an open system, the client may request privacy, and has the option of conducting the colon therapy session him/herself. It is called an "open system" because the waste material flows out around the tube into the base of the device through a viewing tube, and is expelled into the sewer. An odor exhaust system ensures that the room remains odor-free.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Each individual is different and may require or desire different amounts. Just as some people exercise on a daily or weekly basis to tighten and tone their outer body, some people may also have their own pace or routine for cleansing, toning, and rebuilding their inner body.
Many physicians suggest twelve sessions over a ten week period (2-weekly sessions for the first two weeks, then 1-week sessions for the following eight weeks).
Colon hydrotherapy should always be done in conjunction with a holistic diet, including increased fiber and water, as well as exercise. For more answers about colonic hydrotherapy treatments, review the most Frequently Asked Questions.
You should not pursue colon hydrotherapy treatment if you have any of the following conditions:
If you are taking prescription medication
for any condition diagnosed by a physician, you should check with your
physician to ensure the medication will not be interfered with by
the additional water intake and absorption.
What Are Sessions Like?
First and foremost, our clients are treated with dignity and respect.
Our goal is to maintain a calm, relaxing environment with meditative music, as the session is done in a private room. You will undress from the waist down, and will be covered at all times for privacy and warmth. If requested, the trained I-ACT certified therapist can be in the room to assist you throughout all or part of the session, or you may choose to relax and cleanse in privacy.
As part of our personalized care and service, the therapist can assist by stimulating the colon to release through foot and abdominal massage.
During the treatment, gravity-fed, filtered, warm water flows through a single-use, disposable nozzle (about the width of a pencil) which is inserted into the rectum approximately 1-1.5 inches. You are in control of the insertion of the rectal nozzle, after receiving instructions by the therapist on how to do so. There should be no pain during the insertion or when the nozzle is in place.
Throughout the session, water moves through the nozzle and along the colon, loosening and softening waste. The waste, water and debris are released out around the nozzle during the natural peristalsis contractions of the colon into a basin, and out through the system (the same as a toilet, only you can see your releases after it leaves the body as it passes through a viewing tube... this can be an education in-of itself!). There is no odor, as odors are drawn away and vented out through the device.
A typical session takes about 50 minutes on the device to meet the clients cleansing needs, though some may need more or less time. We always strive to be sensitive to each client’s personal feelings and individual needs.

Pre & Post-Session Tips...
We recommend that clients refrain from eating 2 to 3 hours before each session, and drink plenty of room-temperature water to facilitate better emptying of the lower bowel. The last two meals before a session should exclude white flour (pasta, pizza, etc.), white sugar, animal flesh (such as beef, poultry, and pork; white fish and salmon are acceptable), dairy products, alcohol, carbonated beverages, and any food that may be gaseous to the individual.
The same protocol should be followed after the session for at least two meals. To learn more about how to maintain a healthy digestive system moving forward, visit our Healthy Resources
